You’re aware, right? The 2nd Law is out and I’m almost glad Muse took the last several years off (…almost…) because the result is complete madness.
I know I’ve discussed Muse before…so I won’t go into their history…but things are different now. This LP is, by far, their most expansive and varied collection to date. Don’t misunderstand, I love what they’ve done over the last decade–huge, drama-filled, unadulterated rock. It shook you, right down somehwere quite close to your soul.
But now? Well now there’s dubstep and metal and strings all mixing together in a magnificently painful way.
The majority of the tracks are stooped in dispair, anger, and anguish…wrapping you up in a storm of emotion.
Rumor has it that Madness was inspired by a fight with Bellamy‘s love Kate Hudson…
And Supremacy rages against the hubris of modern man (because…why not?)…
And while it’s all rather bad news, it sure makes for something wonderful.
It’s been a day of good news and great invites. There’s so much stoking my excitement at the moment I can barely keep track of it all.
The first two are book related…but really, are you surprised?
Book Expo America has been going on the past two days here in NYC and tomorrow, I get to attend. As a power reader. Really, I die, there will be authors and publishers flouting their wisdom and then little old me and some of my friends gobbling it all up.
Next, remember this beauty I taunted you with many (too many) weeks ago?
No…I didn’t finish. Life was ever so rude and got in the way for a while.
It’s actually still in the way but now, now I simply refuse to put the book down. I sincerely hope someone else out there is reading along with me because it.is.magical.
A little thing I like to call a hunch tells me I’ll finish it sometime this weekend, it’s too good not to. So expect that post sometime soon!
And if you thought a blog post could exist on this site without at least a passing mention of food, you were unfortunately wrong. Because I am once again near a Trader Joe’s, no food product in the city is safe.
These are my two current obsessions favorites,
Tangy, tangy, tangy-tart. I couldn’t be more in love. I refuse to show a picture of the inside, you’d be embarrassed by how much is already missing. Just know that it is good… very, very good.
And a new (to me) all natural peanut butter with delightful little flaxseeds strewn throughout.
If you’re thinking about combing the two (you naughty little devil you!) I want you to be prepared… you’ll have to forever abandon chocolate sauce and apples if you do so. There’s simply no returning to their previously mundane partners after so magical a union.
Crunchy-Cold-Salty-Sweet-Smooth….sigh.
And then, to show that the stars have truly aligned on this fateful day, Muse just released the “trailer” for their new album.
I suppose Matthew Bellamy has been a bit busy, what with gallivanting about the globe with Kate Hudson and their new child or something, but the wait has been too long and I, for one, couldn’t be happier they’re back.
The fun continues tomorrow after the expo with a promising pop-up shop I’m attending, I’ll keep you posted! (pun intended my dears)
Ever since I titled my last music post, “MuseMuseMusic” this band has been on my mind, as well as the majority of my Spotify endeavors (check sidebar playlist for evidence)…
Muse is an English rock band made up of school friends Matthew Bellamy (more on him in a minute), Christopher Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard. “Rock” is used here in the most general sense of the word because this is a band famous for fusing together multiple music genres. You get space rock, you get progressive rock, you get alternative rock, there’s a smattering of heavy metal components, a decent classical music influence, and more recently a bit of an electronica feel.
Overwhelmed? Just wait ’til you see them live. I promise three people this small have never made so much noise before.
Think you’ve never heard a Muse song? If those abominably addicting Twilight movies are a part of your past…you would be wrong. Remember this?
That’s Muse. This song, ”Supermassive Black Hole”, off their 2006 album Black Holes and Revelations, was inescapable after the first movie’s release.
Unfortunately, this soundtrack isn’t my favorite showcase of their work. Kristen Stewart‘s acting is potentially more to blame than the actual song, however.
Their 2009 studio album, The Resistance is really what drew me in. It’s an incredible blend of music. Every song flows so magically into the next that suddenly the whole album has passed and you haven’t done a thing with your life for a solid 54 minutes.
Matthew Bellamy is a pretty amazing component of the band. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s had a baby with and is now engaged to Kate Hudson. My jealousy for her is unspeakable. Just because she’s beautiful, charming, and starred in this movie doesn’t mean she gets to marry all the best rock stars…am I right?
More impressive than his life of glamor is that he is the lead vocalist, pianist, lead guitarist, and main songwriter for the band. Is it safe to say Muse wouldn’t exist without him? It is for me!
Not many people are blessed with so much talent, and I must say…he uses his very well. He’s been ranked as a top guitarist by numerous publications (think: Gigwise, Total Guitar, NME) and in my opinion is right up there with Eddie Vedder for best voices of our generation.
